“Fix-It” Massage–Better Alternative than Pills

Health care professionals, nurses, and teachers are all hopping  to the massage industry as I write this. Massage is becoming known as the logical way to get rid of pain and stress and it doesn’t rely on drugs. The well educated often try massage first instead of as a last resort.  Massage is a more up-coming industry because, for awhile, no one understood the benefits or had any reason o believe they should get a massage.

The spa industry has done an awesome job of teaching people the value of massage in relaxation. Day spas are exploding everywhere and marketing toward relaxation. Let’s face it, we could all use a vacation and a quality 1 hour session can make you feel a worlds’ different. The relaxation industry has given me a huge opportunity; however, there is an even bigger opportunity available.  The pain relief  and stress relief industry. Did you know that over 50% of all primary care physician visits are for headaches? Headaches are the #1 problem in health care today in the U.S. A person can not possibly do their best with a headache. What do most folks do?  They pop a pill. They put drugs into their bodies — drugs that have side effects.

Massage is a natural cure for most headaches with only positive side effects such as relaxation, better circulation and sleep, and more energy.I later learned that most headaches were stress related, which are called tension headaches. This tension is found in the neck and shoulders, so a good back, shoulder, and neck rub gets rid of most headaches. After finding this out I had a revelation.

As I observed the massage therapists around me, I noticed that the ones that could “fix” things were the most successful. I realized that a massage technique that fixes problems would build a practice faster than a technique for relaxation. The truth is, fix-it massage has no competition whatsoever.

How does one fix a problem in the body?  The answer is simple. We don’t. All we do is increase circulation and allow the body to fix itself. Pain comes from lack of oxygen. Most of the time, lack of oxygen comes from lack of circulation. Understanding this one concept is what helped build my practice.  So do yourself a favor and try a quality “fix-it” massage from me or one of my trusted partners. I studied the best fix-it techniques and it is changing lives. People get their mobility back, they are swing better at baseball, and run farther than ever. The results is what brings people in and keeps them coming back. If you want results then you’ll want to experience my “fix-it” techniques.

You will end up saving money and time by “fixing” the problems the natural way at the source rather than “treating” the symptoms which eventually return.

Relief from Headaches and Migraines

Headaches is the biggest health problem in United States today, without a doubt. The majority of medications sold are primarily for pain and headaches and every one of them has side effects!  The real problem is these medications don’t do a great job keeping the headaches from coming back, because none of them treat the source of the pain. With me, you will get the relief you need and learn how to keep the headaches and migraines from coming back.

Most headaches I see are what doctors call, tension headaches. The main cause can be found in the muscles of the upper back, neck and shoulders. In order to get long lasting relief, we have to treat the cause not the symptom. You will most likely find that the headaches will not return usually after just two or three sessions!

This is because my massage relaxes and lengthens the neck as well as loosening the neck and shoulder muscles which allows the spine to sit comfortably on the spine. When this is achieved, the spinal fluids can circulate more efficiently and pressure is released from the nerves, and as a result the pain is greatly relieved or gone altogether.

6 Powerful Ways To Eliminate Stress Each Month

stress relief massage jacksonWe all have stress and we all know what it is. But do you know the effects of stress that most people won’t tell you?

You see our bodies reflect our emotional state at all hours of the day. If you’ve just woken up on Christmas morning to a load of gifts under the tree, is your posture going to be slumped over with a hunch back? No, that would be the incorrect emotional response. Our bodies respond via how we are feeling, our mood, and so forth. When you are exhausted your posture will be bad, you may even have trouble keeping your eyes open.

So what’s the deal with stress? Stress is the number one killer in America today. Why? Because it is a silent killer. The effects aren’t even noticeable until it is too late. We store our stress in our necks and our back and shoulders. As a Massage Professional in Jackson, MS, I see a good bit of patients with the stressed out shoulders. I’m going to explain how it is harmful then give some pointers to remove this problem completely!
Just like when we are scared, we tense our muscles in our bodies. It’s a defense mechanism and good one too. However, the downside is that the body doesn’t know when it is, “in the clear” and should not be stressed anymore. So we continue to keep feeling stress until we have a cigarette in our mouth, or any other negative behavior it will cause.

When the muscle is tight, it stops receiving oxygen, water, blood, and nutrients therefore it starts to hurt. If nicotine in cigarettes is known for removing oxygen and you are already losing oxygen due to the stress, how is this going to help? It’s not!
So that starts of tip #1.

Tip #1. Stop Smoking. You hear it all the time how it is bad for you. Seriously it affects you more than you think. With lower use of your lung capacity, you are not utilizing your oxygen properly therefore you age faster.

Tip #2. Self-care. This is something Americans are bad about. We get caught up in the daily hustle thinking that jobs, money, etc is all that there is to life. There is so much more! Explore and take care of yourself. You only have one life, make is useful. Do something good for someone else and enjoy it. You can start a self-care regimen small and inexpensive just by getting monthly massages. Or what I suggest couples to do is to massage each others feet. If you read my article about Reflexology you’ll learn why this is so important.

Tip #3. Get more Oxygen! As you’ve just discovered, oxygen, or lack there-of, is the ultimate reason for the change of feelings, mood, etc from the stress and tension. You can get more oxygen just sitting in the grass away from the table of bills, and just admire whats around you and take deep breaths and allow the soothing air fill your lungs and expand. This is a great self care method for meditation as well. Just close your eyes for a minute and embrace.

Tip #4. Exercise! Everyone knows exercise increases oxygen intake and makes your lungs and heart more efficient. Read my article on circulation and you’ll learn things you probably NEVER knew!

Tip #5. Do something just for yourself. Go out without the spouse with some friends to a bar or restaurant. Go socialize, or if you are a homebody like I am, play some online video games! Nothing is more stress releasing then blowing up some people on a video game(just kidding).

Tip #6 Take a Warm Aromatherapy bath. I sell home-made products for those that want to relax in their bath and enjoy the benefits of my Miracle Salt Solution. There are so many benefits to certain aromas. Have you ever smelled a cologne or perfume that reminded you of someone you used to know? Same principle. Certain smells affect our brains differently.

Beat The Stress With Massage-Effective Therapy for Tension and Pain.

When we think of stress we normally think of bills, car payments, kids’ afterschool  activities, home repairs, grocery and to-do list, mortgage refinances, etc.  All that’s listed above is Emotional Stress which is the most common culprit for neck and shoulder tightness.massage therapy jackson ms Keep reading to discover how to eliminate and keep this demon at bay.

Physical Stress are things like, sleeping on your side, overexertion doing yardwork, running when you should be resting, etc.   The best way to deal with stress is to eliminate it all together!  Now, I know most of you are thinking, “John, my kids and marriage stresses me out, I can’t just ‘get rid of them’”.  You see, we all have stressors in our life, what makes the difference is how we let it affect us.  It’s not your kids that are causing you to become so wound up, it’s how you let it affect you.

Treating the cause is always best to treat the symptom.  This is where massage therapy comes in. Isn’t it always easier to stay well than to get well?  By preventing these stress hormones from building up and ruling your life you can simply prevent it with a monthly massage to keep the problem from ever getting out of control.  When your neck or your back hurts, it is instinctual to rub it, it’s natural!  So it makes sense to get a massage when you’re hurting and to prevent yourself from hurting.

You can also actively stretch throughout the day and I don’t mean full all-out stretches on the floor, etc. That is not very realistic being that most of us work somewhere. I mean just gently stretch your neck, shoulders, wrist and arms and legs.

I’m not suggesting or saying things that will benefit me because that’s not what I am all about.  I’m suggesting things that I currently do that are working for me and countless others in today’s world.  I’m here to help you become better, rid your lives of stress and tension, so you can live your life the way you want, without looking over your shoulder waiting for pain and tension to strike again.

If you have any questions about stress, the psychology of things, or need personal guidance, or maybe are interested in receiving a massage but may have some concerns. Please give me a call! I’d love to go over anything I can help you with by telephone. Remember, I’m here for you!

Weekend for Change

I’ve known for a while it was time for a change, and a drastic one.  Staying organized was not something I was born instinctively good at doing.  After graduating college I needed to shift my priorities and get things in order.  First thing I had to do was let go of all the stresses in my life including the negative people. Negativity will never be helpful to us, it’s a big problem and very hard to eliminate.  Stress and bills is one thing but when the negative stress in your life is people or people you care about for that matter, things become trickier.

So this weekend I went to New Orleans for a random visit and an adventure.  Up to this point, I’ve been work, work, and more work with no time for myself. I’d work 9am-5pm and if I didn’t have anyone at 6pm-9pm, then I’d head home and answer emails, check voicemail, finish my charting for the clients that day, filing, book more appointments, and you get the picture. By the time I’m done it’s 10pm and time to go to sleep just to wake up and do it all over again.  Which means this weekend was a MUCH needed break.

I got back from New Orleans and did house chores. No longer will I wake up to a cluttered floor or home.  Time for positive change, such as walking/running everyday and doing something for myself everyday. I love my job and I love my clients dearly, but I need to give myself some time as well.  So, I had a great weekend and it brought about a healthy lifestyle change, what are you going to change this month?

Swedish and Deep Tissue

Swedish & deep tissue massage are the most popular types of bodywork because most people need to unwind mentally, release physically, or often times both.   I do these modalities well and have the ability to really help you to feel better!

Swedish massage is geared to relax and unwind at a deep level.  People need the stress reduction capabilities of Swedish massage.  If you want to just melt and forget about your problems for an hour or two, try some Swedish massage.  Often times our physical tension is caused mostly by mental stress.  In this case Swedish massage is the prescription of choice.  When people come here for a relaxing massage they leave as new beings!

Deep tissue & trigger point therapy together work out knots and tight bands of muscle that are restricting movement and causing pain.  You also may require trigger point therapy (pressing directly on specific hot spots).  Many people really need to get their muscles worked deep.  If you have sore shoulders or tightness and pain in your back, deep tissue massage can loosen you up and help you to feel better.  You may feel knots that you didn’t know you had!  I’ll get in there and work them out without overworking them.  Many of the people that come to me do repetitive work activities and get injured, sore or just plain tight.  Some people haven’t received massage on a regular basis and they really need to get going with a steady schedule.  Why not take care of yourself with a weekly or biweekly massage?  I can help you to feel better.  You deserve it!

Keyboard keys and Iceland

Keyboard Keys

This is my personal blog which means, no massage related anything. Just a glimpse into my own life.

For those of you that didn’t know, I love to play piano. I have had a keyboard that I was playing up until several months ago. Funny story about that, haha.  I keep all my money for bills, gas, etc, in a safe in my home. It’s on of those cheap Walmart safes so it wasn’t at all that secure. I just needed a place to keep the money until it’s time to pay bills.

P.S. I don’t use credit cards. I refuse to be the 98% of broke, in-debt Americans.

Moving on now! So it was time to pay bills and I couldn’t find the safe key. While I was playing piano one day I heard something rattling inside the piano. I knew it! It’s the key!

So I did what any desperate crazy person would do. I go the screwdrivers and opened up the keyboard which took about 30 minutes.

As I’m digging underneath the keys, into the wiring, going through all the paneling, I find it finally… The penny.  No key, just a destroyed keyboard and a penny.

Moral of the Story: I just laughed about it. We need to all find things to laugh about even if we look like fools in the process.

Have you ever walked into a room and forgot why you went in there? Or was going up the stairs and you thought there was one more step?  Find some laughter and enjoyment is all I’m saying.

Iceland

So what could I possibly blog about Iceland about? I’m always searching for new massage music(oops I mentioned the “M” word!) and I always stumble upon some weird bells and ocean waves with birds cawing. Well just pilfering around youtube I can across an Icelandic musician called Sigur Ros. This music was serene and made me feel like a child again. Just click the play button below and enjoy a few minutes of it. I promise it will amaze you the difference of music between Americans and other countries.

And now the most beautiful performance. I bet you can’t watch this video all the way through without tearing up or having some sort of an emotional impact.
